San Diego State Aztecs Set to Confront UNLV Runnin' Rebels in Las Vegas Showdown

As the San Diego State Aztecs prepare to face off against the UNLV Runnin' Rebels at the Thomas & Mack Center, fans are bracing for what promises to be a riveting encounter. The upcoming game, scheduled for March 14th, is not just another mark on the calendar; it's a chance for SDSU to assert their dominance or succumb to their rivals on enemy territory.

The Aztecs have shown resilience and skill throughout the season, but their recent performance against Boise State Broncos on March 9th was a nail-biter that ended in an overtime defeat with a close score of 79-77. Despite this setback, there were positive takeaways from that game. SDSU demonstrated an impressive two-point shooting percentage of 57 percent and outrebounded Boise State with a total of 40 rebounds compared to Boise's 37. Their points in the paint stood at an imposing number of 44, indicating their ability to penetrate defenses effectively.

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for SDSU. Their three-point shooting languished at just 24 percent – a stark contrast from their opponents who managed a solid 41 percent from beyond the arc. This area will undoubtedly require attention if they aim to overcome UNLV's defense.

Looking back further into February against San Jose State Spartans on February 28th, SDSU showcased better form with an overall field goal percentage of 43 and free throw accuracy sitting comfortably at 77 percent. They also had higher assists turnover ratio than both previous games which could be pivotal in tight situations.

UNLV should not be underestimated though; they edged out SDSU by four points during their last meeting on March 6th with strong defensive plays leading to ten blocks and limiting turnovers compared to SDSU’s eight turnovers that night.

The key battle will likely be fought under the basket where both teams have shown prowess but also vulnerability. The Aztecs must capitalize on second-chance points and maintain pressure offensively while tightening up perimeter defense against UNLV's sharpshooters who hit an impressive three-point percentage last time around.

With stakes high and pride on line, this matchup is more than just about numbers – it’s about momentum heading into postseason play where every victory counts exponentially more.

Fans eager not only witness but feel part of this intense rivalry can tune into CBS Sports Network at precisely half-past two PM local time (Pacific Time) come Thursday afternoon when these two titans clash once again in Las Vegas – where fortunes can change as quickly as shots are made or missed.
