Spartans' Sharp Shooting Not Enough Against Bulldogs at Save Mart Center

In a closely contested game, the San Jose State Spartans fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs with a final score of 85-82. The Spartans now stand with an overall record of 0-1, while the Bulldogs have started their season at 1-0.

San Jose State Spartans VS Fresno State Bulldogs

The game was held at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, where 3,146 spectators witnessed a battle that saw the lead change hands 22 times and scores tied on five occasions. The San Jose State Spartans showcased remarkable accuracy from beyond the arc, sinking 17 three-pointers on a scorching 59 percent shooting. However, their efforts were not enough to secure victory.

The Spartans' offense was firing on all cylinders as they managed to put up an impressive total of 82 points against their opponents. They went into halftime with a slight deficit despite scoring 40 points in the first half and adding another strong performance in the second half with an additional 42 points. Their field goal percentage stood at a solid 47 percent for the game.

San Jose State's defense also made its presence felt by matching Fresno State's four blocks and four steals. On top of that defensive effort, they dished out fifteen assists throughout the contest. The team showed discipline by committing only fourteen personal fouls and avoiding any foulouts or ejections.

Rebounding was another area where San Jose State excelled; they grabbed a total of thirty-six rebounds—twenty defensive boards and fourteen offensive ones—which contributed to nineteen second-chance points for them during this matchup.

Despite these commendable efforts from San Jose State players, it was not enough to overcome Fresno State's own sharpshooting and efficient play inside. The Bulldogs boasted higher percentages in two-point field goals (63 percent) and free throws (80 percent), which ultimately gave them an edge over their rivals from San Jose.

Looking ahead for fans of the Spartans: your team will be hosting New Mexico Lobos at Provident Credit Union Event Center located in San Jose on January 24th at approximately nine o'clock PM Pacific Time. This upcoming conference game will be broadcasted nationally on CBS Sports Network channel two hundred twenty-one for those who wish to follow along live.
