Mustangs' Key Players Shine

The spotlight was undeniably on several Mustang players who turned in remarkable performances. Samet YiÄŸitoÄŸlu led the charge with 17 points and 7 rebounds, showcasing his versatility and efficiency on both ends of the floor. Matt Cross followed closely, contributing 16 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, further solidifying the frontcourt's dominance throughout the game.

Kario Oquendo's perfect shooting night was another highlight for SMU. Scoring 16 points without missing a single shot illuminated his exceptional skill set and decision-making during critical moments of play. Meanwhile, Kevin Miller orchestrated the offense beautifully by dishing out 10 assists alongside scoring 10 points himself, demonstrating his dual-threat capability as both scorer and facilitator.

Stanford Cardinal Struggles to Keep Pace

Despite their efforts, Stanford struggled to find consistency against SMU's robust defense and efficient scoring attack. The Cardinal managed to shoot only 33 percent from field goals compared to SMU's impressive 53 percent shooting accuracy. Their leading scorers fought hard but were unable to match the intensity brought by their opponents on both ends of the court.

Stanford did show resilience in rebounding by securing a total of 43 boards against SMU’s 34 but failed to capitalize on these opportunities effectively due to turnovers and missed shots that ultimately hindered their ability to close down or surpass their deficit at any point during game time.
