Did SMU Mustangs' Paint Dominance Challenge Vanderbilt Commodores' Defense?

First Half


The opening half saw both teams battling for control, with SMU managing to keep pace with Vanderbilt's aggressive play. The Ponies showcased their strength in points in the paint, scoring 38 points from this area alone. Samet Yiğitoğlu led this effort by contributing significantly under the basket. Despite their efforts, SMU trailed by 10 points at halftime as Vanderbilt capitalized on fast breaks and efficient shooting.


Second Half


In the second half, SMU continued their focus on interior scoring but struggled to contain Vanderbilt's offensive surge. The Commodores extended their lead through effective ball movement and three-point shooting accuracy. B.J. Edwards tried to spark a comeback for SMU with his defensive rebounds and assists but was met with resistance from Vanderbilt's defense which recorded eight blocks throughout the game.
