At the Hank McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta, fans witnessed an intense matchup where the Syracuse Orange demonstrated strong defensive skills with 12 steals and blocked two shots. Despite their efforts, they were unable to secure victory on the road. The team's offensive performance was highlighted by scoring 32 points in the paint and adding another 15 through fast breaks. Their shooting from inside the arc was efficient at 51 percent, converting 18 out of 35 two-point attempts.

The Orange also showed proficiency from the free-throw line, making 12 out of their total 17 attempts which rounded up to an impressive accuracy rate of about 71 percent. However, they struggled beyond the three-point line with only four successful shots from a total of 25 attempts resulting in a low three-point shooting percentage of around just 16 percent.

On top of their defensive prowess shown through steals, Syracuse managed to gather a total rebound count of thirty; however this was overshadowed by Georgia Tech's dominant rebounding performance which totaled forty-nine for them. The turnover battle was won by Syracuse as well; they maintained possession better than Georgia Tech with only seven turnovers compared to seventeen for their opponents.

Despite these efforts and leading at times during the game – as indicated by five lead changes – it wasn't enough to overcome Georgia Tech's overall performance which included higher assist numbers (14) and better three-point shooting (28 percent). Both teams committed seventeen personal fouls each and used one remaining timeout wisely towards closing stages.
