Syracuse Orange Overpowers Hokies at JMA Wireless Dome in High-Scoring Affair

The Syracuse Orange improved their season record with a commanding victory over the Virginia Tech Hokies, ending the game with a final score of 84-71. The Hokies' record now stands at an even split after this encounter.

In front of a home crowd of 20,244 at the JMA Wireless Dome, the Syracuse Orange showcased their offensive capabilities by dominating both halves. The first half saw them put up an impressive 45 points against the Hokies' 27. They continued their strong performance into the second half, adding another 39 points to secure their win.


The Orange's shooting was particularly effective; they achieved a field goal percentage of 57 and were flawless from the free-throw line, making all 12 attempts. Their two-point shooting was also noteworthy as they made an impressive 64 percent of those shots. This high conversion rate contributed significantly to their total points in paint which tallied up to 54.

Defensively, Syracuse also stood out with eight steals and three blocks during the game, underscoring their ability to disrupt Virginia Tech's offense. Additionally, they capitalized on turnovers scoring 18 points off them and maintained better ball control with only seven turnovers compared to ten by Virginia Tech.


Key players for Syracuse included those who orchestrated plays leading to scores; evidenced by their higher assist count at 18 assists which reflects a more collaborative effort when compared to Virginia Tech's own tally of assists standing at just fourteen.

On the other side of the court, despite falling short on overall scoreline and several statistical categories such as total rebounds where they had only twenty-seven against thirty-one by Syracuse – Virginia Tech did show resilience especially in scoring within paint where they managed fifty points. Their long-range efforts yielded six three-pointers from twenty attempts resulting in thirty percent success rate from beyond arc.


Virginia Tech’s free throw accuracy was notable too; although limited in number (only three attempts), they converted all into points contributing towards their final seventy-one tally.
