Texas Tech Red Raiders Overwhelmed by Top-Ranked Houston Cougars in Semifinal

The first half saw Texas Tech put up a valiant effort, scoring 29 points to Houston's 32. However, the second half widened the gap as the Cougars surged ahead with an additional 50 points to Texas Tech's 30. Despite their efforts, Texas Tech could not close this margin.


Texas Tech's performance was marked by some notable statistics; they achieved an impressive free throw percentage of around 92 percent making an exceptional 22 out of their total of 24 attempts. Their field goal attempts were less successful though, with only about one-third finding their mark from a total of forty-five shots taken.

On defense and rebounding fronts, Texas Tech managed to secure a total of thirty-one rebounds with twenty-eight being personal rebounds and three attributed to team efforts. They also recorded four steals and blocked one shot during playtime but struggled with turnovers which amounted to nineteen for them compared to eight by Houston.


In contrast, Houston showcased strong offensive capabilities throughout the game. They boasted higher accuracy in field goals at approximately forty-nine percent and two-point shots at fifty-five percent success rate. Their prowess extended beyond shooting as they demonstrated effective ball movement resulting in sixteen assists and capitalized on fast-break opportunities contributing eleven fast break points.

Furthermore, Houston was more effective in converting turnovers into points scoring twenty-six off turnovers compared to sixteen by Texas Tech and dominated second-chance points tallying sixteen against seven from Texas Tech.
