The game, held at Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans, saw the home team Tulane Green Wave put up a valiant effort against their visitors. Despite trailing by four points at halftime with a score of 41 to the Mustangs' 45, Tulane managed to keep pace throughout the second half. However, they were ultimately unable to close the gap.

Tulane's offensive efforts were led by their ability to convert inside shots as they made an impressive 49 percent of their two-point attempts and finished with a total field goal percentage of 45. They also outperformed the Mustangs in points from fast breaks and points scored off turnovers by margins of four and two respectively. Additionally, Tulane capitalized on second-chance opportunities scoring one more point than SMU.

On defense, Tulane managed eight blocks and nine steals over the course of play but committed more personal fouls than SMU with a total count of 21. Their defensive rebounding was strong as they collected 24 boards on that end but fell short overall with ten fewer rebounds than SMU's tally.

The Mustangs showcased resilience on both ends of the court. They shot effectively from beyond the arc hitting ten three-pointers at an accuracy rate of 44 percent compared to Tulane's four at just 31 percent efficiency. Their free throw shooting was also reliable as they made nearly three-quarters of their attempts from the line.

SMU dominated several statistical categories including total rebounds where they outrebounded Tulane by eight and assists where they distributed nineteen compared to twelve by The Green Wave which contributed significantly to their win despite both teams turning over possession eleven times each.

Looking ahead for The Green Wave fans can mark their calendars for February 18 when Tulane will take on East Carolina Pirates at Minges Coliseum located in Greenville NC starting at 2:00 PM Eastern Time broadcasted online via ESPN+. This upcoming match promises another opportunity for The Green Wave players to showcase their skills and teamwork on court before an engaged audience eager for basketball action.
