Green Wave's Surge Falls Short Against Pirates at Minges Coliseum

In a closely contested conference game, the Tulane Green Wave faced off against the East Carolina Pirates, with both teams seeking to bolster their season records. The Green Wave entered the fray with an unblemished record but left with a mark of 0-1 after succumbing to the Pirates in a 67-81 defeat.

Tulane Green Wave VS East Carolina Pirates

The game, held at Minges Coliseum in Greenville, saw the Green Wave put up a valiant effort. They managed to keep pace in the first half, trailing by just five points as they posted 33 points against the Pirates' 38. However, despite their best efforts and an improved second-half performance yielding another 34 points, it was not enough to overcome East Carolina's consistent scoring which added another 43 points after halftime.

The statistics tell a story of hard-fought battles and missed opportunities for Tulane. With an overall field goal percentage of 47 percent from their total attempts of 45 shots and converting eight out of twenty-one three-point attempts (38 percent), they showed competitive shooting prowess. Their free throw accuracy was impressive at an excellent rate of 85 percent from twenty attempts.

However, turnovers proved costly for Tulane as they gave up possession sixteen times throughout the contest. Despite this setback, they managed fifteen points off turnovers thanks to six steals on defense. The team also demonstrated decent ball distribution with fourteen assists but had less than one assist per turnover ratio (0.93).

On defense, Tulane struggled on the boards with only twenty-two rebounds—five offensive and seventeen defensive—compared to East Carolina's thirty-one total rebounds which included ten offensive grabs that contributed significantly to second-chance opportunities resulting in thirteen second-chance points for the home team.

East Carolina capitalized on fast break situations scoring eight fast break points while limiting Tulane to just two such points. The home team also made better use of turnovers by scoring twenty-three points off them due largely to their twelve steals during play.

Looking ahead for Tulane fans who are eager for redemption following this setback: The next opportunity comes when Devlin Fieldhouse hosts an exciting matchup between your beloved Green Wave and UAB Blazers on February 25th at 3:00 PM New Orleans time (Central Time). This encounter will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 channel two hundred nine where fans can tune in live or catch updates as they unfold.
