Golden Hurricane Overwhelmed by Mustangs' Offensive Surge at Moody Coliseum

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane's record now stands at 0-1 after a challenging contest against the SMU Mustangs, who improved their record to 1-0. The final score read 103-70 in favor of the home team.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane VS SMU Mustangs

At Moody Coliseum, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane faced a tough opponent in the SMU Mustangs. Despite a valiant effort, they were unable to contain the Mustangs' dynamic offense. The Golden Hurricane put up 33 points in the first half and added another 37 in the second, but it wasn't enough to match their opponents' scoring spree of 52 and then 51 points across both halves.

The Golden Hurricane showcased some solid statistics despite falling short on the scoreboard. They made an impressive 54 percent of their two-point attempts and shot a commendable 79 percent from the free-throw line. From beyond the arc, they managed to hit seven out of twenty-seven three-point attempts, translating into a three-point shooting percentage of about 26 percent.

On defense, Tulsa recorded five blocks and six steals but struggled with turnovers as they gave up possession eighteen times during play. Their assist-to-turnover ratio stood at approximately 0.94, indicating more turnovers than assists which likely impacted their ability to maintain offensive momentum.

Rebounding was another area where Tulsa fought hard; they grabbed thirty-three rebounds with twenty-two being defensive and seven offensive rebounds contributing to twelve second-chance points. However, this effort was overshadowed by SMU's forty-one total rebounds that included ten offensive boards leading directly to twelve second-chance points for them as well.

The Mustangs capitalized on fast breaks with twenty-seven fast break points compared to Tulsa's twelve and turned turnovers into significant scoring opportunities by tallying twenty-three points off turnovers against Tulsa's six.

Looking ahead for fans of the Golden Hurricane: The next game is scheduled against Rice Owls at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston on January 27th at 7:00 PM Central Time Zone (CT). This game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU channel two hundred eight for those wishing to follow along from home or elsewhere.
