Owls Soar Past Blazers at Bartow Arena in Sharpshooting Display

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers faced a challenging contest against the visiting Owls, with both teams entering the fray unranked. The final scoreline read 94-71 in favor of the Owls, marking a significant home loss for the Blazers. The Owls' season record now stands at an impressive 1-0, while the Blazers have been left to reflect on a 0-1 start.

Rice Owls VS UAB Blazers

At Bartow Arena, home fans witnessed an intense battle where offensive execution was key. The Owls showcased remarkable accuracy from the field, converting 60 percent of their attempts and an astounding 58 percent from beyond the arc. Their two-point shots were particularly effective as they made 24 out of 39 attempts (62 percent). This sharpshooting prowess contributed to their substantial points in paint tallying up to 42.

The UAB Blazers fought valiantly but struggled with their shooting touch throughout the game. They managed only a 34 percent field goal percentage and were less effective from two-point range with just a 32 percent success rate. Despite these challenges, they excelled at free throw shooting by making an impressive 82 percent of their shots from the line.

Rebounding was one area where UAB held its own; they collected more total rebounds than their opponents with a count of 36 compared to Rice's total rebound count of just under that number. Of those rebounds for UAB, an aggressive approach on offense led them to secure more offensive boards (17) than Rice (5), which translated into more second-chance points (17).

Defensively both teams were active; each team recorded four steals while UAB managed two blocks against Rice's four rejections. However, it was not enough for UAB as Rice capitalized on turnovers scoring thirteen points off them compared to twelve by UAB.

Looking ahead after this tough loss, fans can catch the next game for University of Alabama at Birmingham when they visit Tulane Green Wave at Devlin Fieldhouse in New Orleans on February 25th scheduled for a tip-off time at around mid-afternoon local time (3:00 PM CST). This matchup will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 channel number two hundred nine for those who wish to follow along and support their team remotely.
