UNLV Runnin' Rebels Secure Victory at Firestone Fieldhouse Against Pepperdine Waves
In a display of offensive efficiency, the UNLV Runnin' Rebels outpaced the Pepperdine Waves with a final score of 82-68. The victory at Firestone Fieldhouse saw the Runnin' Rebels maintain their unblemished record, now standing at 1-0, while the Waves fell to 0-1.
The UNLV Runnin' Rebels showcased an impressive shooting performance, converting 58 percent of their field goal attempts and an exceptional 92 percent from the free-throw line. Dominating inside, they racked up a substantial 50 points in the paint. The team's two-point shooting was particularly effective with a success rate of 65 percent.
Defensively, the Runnin' Rebels were active on both ends of the court with eight steals contributing to their total. They capitalized on turnovers by scoring 18 points off them and maintained pressure throughout both halves. The team's rebounding effort yielded them a total of 24 rebounds.
The offensive charge was led by sharp three-point shooting as well; six shots found their mark out of fifteen attempts for a solid three-point percentage of 40. Their fast-break execution added another dimension to their game plan, accounting for ten additional points.
While turnovers could have been an area for concern with ten instances where possession was lost, it did not significantly impact the outcome due to strong overall play and maintaining an assists-turnover ratio close to one (0.8).
On the other side, despite falling short in scoring output and shooting efficiency at only 44 percent from field goals and approximately 69 percent from free throws, Pepperdine Waves managed more rebounds than UNLV with a total count reaching into double digits at thirty-four rebounds which included thirteen offensive boards that led to twelve second-chance points.
The Waves also showed speed in transition accumulating thirteen fast break points but struggled from beyond the arc hitting just under thirty-two percent from three-point range which ultimately contributed to their inability to keep pace with UNLV's scoring.
