The University of Southern California Trojans, with a record of 0-0 before the game, faced off against the Colorado Buffaloes at the CU Events Center. The final score read 68-58 in favor of the home team.
The USC Trojans started strong, leading with 37 points to Colorado's 24 by halftime. However, the second half saw a shift in momentum as the Buffaloes outscored USC by a significant margin, putting up an additional 44 points to USC's 21. Despite their efforts and a high free throw accuracy rate of eighty-two percent, the Trojans could not maintain their lead.
USC demonstrated solid defensive efforts with three blocks and five steals throughout the game. On offense, they managed to score thirty-two points in paint and added thirteen second-chance points to their tally. The team also capitalized on turnovers by scoring eight points off them.
However, it was not enough to counteract Colorado's aggressive playstyle which resulted in twenty-one fast break points for them. The Buffaloes also had an impressive fifty percent shooting from two-point range compared to USC's thirty-nine percent.
The rebounding battle was closely contested; however, USC edged out with forty total rebounds against Colorado's thirty-six. Of these rebounds for USC, twenty-seven were defensive and eleven offensive which contributed significantly to their initial lead.
Despite having no remaining timeouts towards the end of the game while Colorado had two left at their disposal, it was ultimately turnovers that costed USC dearly as they committed fourteen compared to only eight by Colorado.
