Key Performances from USC

The USC Trojans showcased some notable performances despite the loss. Desmond Claude led the team in scoring with 18 points and demonstrated his playmaking abilities by adding two assists. His shooting accuracy was on display as he made half of his field goal attempts and was perfect from the free-throw line. Rashaun Agee also made significant contributions with 11 points and led the team in rebounds with seven, showcasing his presence on both ends of the court.

Wesley Yates emerged as another key player for USC, contributing 13 points along with three assists and seven rebounds. His all-around performance was crucial for keeping the game competitive. Matt Knowling's efficiency stood out as well; he scored 11 points without missing a single shot from both field goals and free throws.

Purdue's Winning Edge

On the other side, Purdue Boilermakers capitalized on their balanced attack and slightly better shooting efficiency to clinch victory. Their ability to draw fouls led to more free throw attempts (23 compared to USC's 14), which played a pivotal role in their win despite having a lower free throw percentage than USC (65 percent compared to USC’s 71 percent). The Boilermakers also edged out in rebounds (36 against USC’s 33) and had slightly higher assists (13 against USC’s 12), which contributed to their overall efficiency rating surpassing that of USC.

The game was tightly contested throughout, evidenced by nine lead changes and being tied thirteen times before Purdue managed to pull ahead decisively in the second half.
