Redhawks Soar Over Miners at Don Haskins Center in Hard-Fought Battle

The University of Texas at El Paso Miners faced a challenging contest against the Seattle Redhawks, culminating in a 73-61 outcome. The Miners now stand with an unaltered record, while the Redhawks improved theirs. The clash saw the home team fight valiantly but ultimately fall short.

Norfolk State Spartans VS UTEP Miners

The UTEP Miners entered their home court at Don Haskins Center with determination, but despite their efforts, they could not overcome the visiting Seattle Redhawks. The first half concluded with the Miners trailing by ten points, managing to score only 24 compared to the Redhawks' 34. In an attempt to turn the tide, UTEP ramped up their performance in the second half by adding 37 points to their tally; however, it was not enough as Seattle kept pace and secured another 39 points.

UTEP's offense struggled throughout the game with a field goal percentage of just 34 percent from a total of 53 attempts. Their three-point shots were particularly lacking effectiveness as they made only four out of twenty attempts resulting in a lowly twenty percent success rate. On a more positive note for UTEP fans, free throws were a relative strength for them as they achieved an impressive eighty-one percent accuracy from twenty-six attempts.

Defensively, UTEP managed seven steals over Seattle's three and blocked one shot compared to two from their opponents. However, this defensive effort did not translate into control over rebounds where UTEP gathered twenty-seven personal rebounds against forty-two by Seattle which included thirty-two defensive and six offensive rebounds for SEA.

A standout aspect of UTEP's play was their fast break performance which earned them sixteen fast break points demonstrating moments of effective transition play. Despite this effort and scoring fourteen points off turnovers thanks to nine player turnovers by SEA compared to nine total turnovers by themselves; it wasn't sufficient against SEA’s eleven assists that helped distribute their scoring threat across multiple players.

Looking ahead after this tough encounter on home soil for fans of UTEP basketball is another game set on foreign ground - this time against New Mexico State Aggies at Pan American Center in Las Cruces on January 4th at 7:00 PM local time (Mountain Time). This upcoming match will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network channel two hundred twenty-one ensuring that supporters can follow every moment even if they can't make it to Las Cruces themselves.
