UTEP Miners Dominate at Don Haskins Center Against Sul Ross State Lobos
The UTEP Miners showcased a commanding performance at the Don Haskins Center, outscoring the Sul Ross State Lobos 99-59. The Miners' record now stands at an impressive 1-0, while the Lobos fall to 0-1. The final score reflects a game dominated by the home team, with UTEP nearly doubling their opponent's total.
The Miners' offense was on full display as they shot an exceptional 59 percent from the field and an astounding 75 percent on two-point attempts. Their defensive efforts were equally notable, with a total of 24 steals contributing to numerous fast-break opportunities that culminated in 28 points. The team's aggressive play led to them drawing fouls and visiting the free-throw line for a total of 30 attempts, making 18 of those shots for a free throw percentage of 60.
UTEP also controlled the paint with authority, scoring an overwhelming majority of their points inside for a total of 56 points in paint. Their rebounding was superior as well; they outrebounded their opponents by grabbing a total of 37 rebounds compared to Sul Ross State's modest sum of just over half that number.
On top of their offensive clinic, UTEP's defense stifled any momentum from the Lobos by forcing them into committing a staggering number of turnovers – totaling up to twice as many turnovers as assists provided by Sul Ross State players. This relentless pressure allowed UTEP to capitalize and score an impressive tally off these turnovers.
While UTEP excelled in most aspects, three-point shooting was not their strongest suit during this matchup; however, it hardly mattered given their dominance elsewhere on the court.
The visiting Lobos did have some moments worth noting despite being overwhelmed overall. They managed to sink nine three-point shots at an efficient rate and maintained discipline regarding personal fouls with only one more than UTEP’s count.
Looking ahead after this emphatic victory, fans can anticipate another exciting game when the Miners host Alcorn State Braves next week at Don Haskins Center in El Paso. Scheduled for November 22nd at around nine o'clock PM local time (Central Time), supporters will be able to catch all live action via CUSA TV internet broadcast network.
