Miners' Overtime Surge Not Enough Against Blue Raiders at Murphy Athletic Center

In a hard-fought contest that extended into double overtime, the University of Texas at El Paso Miners fell short against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders with a final score of 96-90. The Miners now stand with an overall record of 0-1, while the Blue Raiders move to 1-0.

The game, held at the Murphy Athletic Center in Murfreesboro, was a showcase of resilience and determination from both teams. The UTEP Miners put up an impressive fight throughout regulation and overtime periods. They managed to score 32 points in the first half and added another 36 in the second. However, it was during overtime where they truly shined, scoring 9 points in the first extension and pushing further with an additional 13 points in the second.


UTEP's performance was marked by their aggressive defense which led to them amassing a total of 15 steals. Their defensive efforts also translated into significant offensive gains as they capitalized on turnovers by scoring 27 points off them. The team's commitment under pressure was evident as they maintained high accuracy from the free-throw line with an impressive conversion rate of approximately eighty-four percent.


On offense, UTEP demonstrated their ability to penetrate defenses by scoring forty-two points in paint areas. They also took advantage of second-chance opportunities by adding sixteen more points following offensive rebounds.


Despite these efforts, Middle Tennessee's home advantage seemed to play a role as they edged out UTEP with higher field goal accuracy around forty-nine percent and were particularly lethal from beyond the arc hitting fifty-eight percent three-point shots which contributed significantly to their victory margin.


The Blue Raiders also excelled at distributing the ball effectively among players which is reflected in their nineteen assists compared to thirteen by UTEP. Additionally, Middle Tennessee made sure every opportunity counted by converting eighty-eight percent of their free throws.
