UTSA Roadrunners Outpace Leathernecks at UTSA Convocation Center

The UTSA Roadrunners and the Western Illinois Leathernecks clashed at the UTSA Convocation Center, with the home team securing a hard-fought victory in overtime. The Roadrunners improved their season record to 1-0, while the Leathernecks fell to 0-1. After an intense battle that extended beyond regulation time, the final score read 78-68 in favor of UTSA.

The game was tightly contested, with eight times tied and nine lead changes throughout. The Roadrunners showcased a balanced offensive effort and a solid defense against their opponents. They ended regular play with an equal score of 65 points each before pulling away in overtime.


UTSA's performance was highlighted by their superior shooting accuracy; they achieved a field goal percentage of 36 compared to Western Illinois' 32 percent. From beyond the arc, both teams struggled somewhat but UTSA managed to edge out with a three-point percentage of 26 compared to WIU's lower rate of 21 percent. At the free-throw line, however, UTSA excelled with an impressive accuracy rate of 74 percent over WIU's less effective rate of 56 percent.


Defensively, both teams were formidable under the basket but it was UTSA that came out on top with seven blocks against WIU's ten blocks. Steals were another area where UTSA showed dominance by taking away possession six times from WIU who managed only two steals during the game.


Rebounding played a crucial role as well; while Western Illinois pulled down more rebounds overall at fifty-six compared to forty-seven for UTSA, it was not enough to secure them victory on this occasion. The Roadrunners made better use of their opportunities by scoring sixteen fast break points and fourteen points off turnovers.
