Virginia Tech Hokies to Host Vermont Catamounts in Cassell Coliseum Basketball Showdown

As the Virginia Tech Hokies prepare to host the Vermont Catamounts at Cassell Coliseum, fans are buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be an electrifying game of basketball. The Hokies, coming off a decisive 71-50 victory over Valparaiso Beacons on December 9th, are looking to maintain their momentum and deliver another stunning performance.

The previous game saw the Hokies dominate both halves, showcasing their offensive prowess by sinking 43 percent of field goals and an impressive 83 percent from the free-throw line. Their defensive efforts were equally commendable, with a total rebound count of 41 compared to Valparaiso's 22. The team's ability to convert turnovers into points was notable as well – they scored 17 points off turnovers.

In contrast, during their last encounter with Louisville Cardinals on December 3rd, the Hokies had a tighter contest but still emerged victorious with a score of 75-68. Their second-half performance was particularly strong as they outscored the Cardinals by eight points. This resilience is something that could play a key role against UVM.

However, it would be unwise to underestimate the Vermont Catamounts who have shown tenacity in their past games. Despite this being an away game for them at Blacksburg's famed Cassell Coliseum – known for its raucous atmosphere – UVM will undoubtedly bring their A-game.

The key factor that might tilt this match in favor of VT is their superior assists turnover ratio which stood at an impressive rate in both recent games (1.29 against Valparaiso and even higher at 1.78 against Louisville). This indicates that VT has been efficient in ball handling and creating scoring opportunities while minimizing mistakes - something they'll need against UVM’s defense.

Another aspect where VT seems to have an edge is in long-range shooting; they made ten three-pointers against Valparaiso at a conversion rate of 37 percent which could stretch UVM’s defense if replicated.

While statistics paint one picture, basketball games are won on the court where anything can happen. Fans should expect VT’s players like Hunter Cattoor and Keve Aluma who have been instrumental this season so far, to step up once again when it matters most.

Looking ahead, fans can mark their calendars for December 16th when these two teams will clash at Cassell Coliseum starting at 4:00 PM EST. For those unable to attend in person, you can catch all the action live on ACC Network channel number six hundred twelve or follow along through various broadcast networks available nationally.
