The game took place at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida, where 7,234 fans witnessed a match filled with lead changes and ties. Despite trailing in the first half with only 35 points to Miami's 26, Virginia Tech managed to rally back in the second half by adding another 39 points to their tally. However, it wasn't enough as Miami surged ahead with an impressive 56 points after halftime.


Virginia Tech showcased some efficient shooting from inside the arc with a two-point percentage of 61 and overall field goal percentage of 48. They also made notable contributions from beyond the three-point line by sinking 11 shots for a three-point percentage of around 37 percent. On defense, they managed seven steals and two blocks but were outrebounded by Miami who grabbed a total of 36 rebounds compared to Virginia Tech's total rebound count of only 28.


A key aspect for Virginia Tech was their ability to capitalize on turnovers; they scored an impressive total of thirteen points off turnovers while maintaining an assists turnover ratio slightly above one (1.36). Points in paint were also significant for them as they scored thirty-two there.


On Miami's side, free throw accuracy was pivotal; they shot an outstanding ninety-three percent from the line which contributed significantly to their victory margin over Virginia Tech. Additionally, second-chance points were crucial for Miami who scored sixteen compared to Virginia Tech's ten.
