Can Virginia Tech Hokies Overcome Seminoles' Paint Dominance?

In a hard-fought contest, the Virginia Tech Hokies fell to the Florida State Seminoles with a final score of 86-76. The Hokies now stand with an additional loss to their record, while the Seminoles mark another victory. Despite a valiant effort, the Hokies could not overcome the Seminoles' offensive surge in the second half.

The game was characterized by intense back-and-forth action, with lead changes occurring eight times and scores tied on six occasions. The Virginia Tech Hokies started strong in the first half, putting up 37 points against Florida State's 36. However, it was during the second half that Florida State pulled ahead significantly, outscoring Virginia Tech by 50-39.


Virginia Tech's performance showcased their ability to convert two-point attempts efficiently at a rate of 69 percent and maintain an overall field goal percentage of 49 percent throughout the game. They also demonstrated proficiency from behind the arc but were less successful than desired, making only six out of twenty-four three-point attempts for a modest three-point percentage of 25 percent.


The team's efforts were supported by solid playmaking as they dished out fourteen assists but were hampered by thirteen turnovers which translated into nine points off turnovers for Florida State. In contrast, Florida State capitalized on their opportunities scoring twenty-five points off turnovers thanks to ten steals and maintaining control with an assists turnover ratio of 1.2.


One area where Virginia Tech struggled was in rebounding; they secured only twenty-five rebounds compared to thirty-four by Florida State. This discrepancy was particularly evident in offensive rebounds where they managed just four against eight from their opponents leading to ten second-chance points for Virginia Tech versus thirteen for Florida State.


Defensively, both teams showed resilience; however, personal fouls became an issue for Virginia Tech who committed twenty fouls over the course of play resulting in two foulouts which may have affected their defensive capabilities late in the game.


Florida State dominated inside scoring forty-eight points in paint due largely to their impressive sixty-three percent shooting on two-point field goals while also converting eighty-three percent from free throw line making twenty-five free throws out of thirty attempted.
