Wake Forest Demon Deacons Outscore Tar Heels at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum

At the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, home to over 11,000 fans that evening, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons showcased their offensive skills by putting up 92 points against the North Carolina Tar Heels who managed to score 85. The first half saw the Demon Deacons take a commanding lead with 47 points compared to the Tar Heels' 25. However, it was not just offense where Wake Forest excelled; they also demonstrated defensive capabilities by matching their opponents with six blocks each and surpassing them with seven steals over four from the Tar Heels.


The second half remained competitive as both teams fought hard on court. The home team continued its scoring streak adding another 45 points while holding off a surging North Carolina team that scored an impressive 60 points in an attempt to close the gap. Despite this effort from North Carolina, they could not overcome Wake Forest's lead.


Wake Forest's shooting accuracy was notable as they achieved a field goal percentage of around 44 percent and were particularly effective inside the arc with a two-point shooting percentage of approximately 51 percent. From beyond three-point range, they made five shots out of nineteen attempts which translates into about a 26 percent success rate.


Free throws were also crucial for Wake Forest as they capitalized on these opportunities by making around 33 free throws out of their total attempts which is roughly equal to a free throw percentage of about 79 percent. This efficiency at the line contributed significantly to maintaining their lead throughout the game.


On top of that, Wake Forest showed better ball management than their counterparts by committing only five turnovers during play compared to twelve from North Carolina. This discipline allowed them more control and ultimately contributed heavily towards securing victory.
