Wake Forest's Valiant Effort Falls Short at Cassell Coliseum Against Virginia Tech

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons faced a tough challenge against the Virginia Tech Hokies, culminating in a 76-87 loss. The Demon Deacons now stand with an overall record of 0-1, while the Hokies have started their season with a 1-0 record. Despite a strong first half where Wake Forest led with 46 points over Virginia Tech's 37, the second half saw the Hokies surge to score 50 points to Wake Forest's additional 30.

At Cassell Coliseum, the Demon Deacons showcased resilience and skill but couldn't overcome the home team's offensive onslaught. The visitors shot an impressive 50 percent from the field and an admirable 44 percent from beyond the arc. They managed to sink 11 three-pointers throughout the game and were also effective in scoring within paint, contributing to their total of 34 points in that area.


Wake Forest’s performance was bolstered by their ability to distribute effectively as evidenced by their tally of 16 assists. However, they struggled slightly from the free-throw line with a success rate of only about two-thirds (64 percent). On defense, they were able to block four shots and steal possession six times from Virginia Tech.

Despite these efforts, it was not enough to secure victory as turnovers proved costly for Wake Forest; they gave up possession on eleven occasions which translated into thirteen points for Virginia Tech off those turnovers. Additionally, while both teams had six steals each indicating parity in defensive pressure applied by both sides during play.


The Hokies' offense proved too potent on this occasion; shooting an exceptional sixty percent overall including sixty-nine percent on two-point attempts which contributed significantly towards their final tally of eighty-seven points. Their efficiency inside was particularly noteworthy as they amassed forty-two paint points compared to thirty-four by Wake Forest.

Virginia Tech also edged out when it came down rebounding battle albeit marginally with twenty-seven rebounds same as that collected by Demon Deacons but crucially had more defensive rebounds at twenty-one versus twenty-two for visitors thus limiting second-chance opportunities for Wake Forest who managed only five second-chance points throughout match-up.
