Cougars Narrowly Outscored by Buffaloes in Boulder Battle

The Washington State Cougars, with a record of 0-0, faced off against the Colorado Buffaloes, also at 0-0, in what was a closely contested game. The final score read 74-67 in favor of the home team. The Cougars started strong with 29 points in the first half but were outpaced by the Buffaloes who put up 39 points. In the second half, the Cougars added another 38 points to their tally while Colorado managed to score 35.

At CU Events Center in Boulder, a crowd of 6,952 fans witnessed an intense match-up where both teams showed significant effort on both ends of the court. The Washington State Cougars displayed solid shooting from inside the arc with a two-point field goal percentage of 54 and an overall field goal percentage of 48. They made good use of their opportunities at the free-throw line as well, converting six out of eight attempts for a free throw percentage of 75.


The Cougars' offense was bolstered by scoring an impressive number of points in paint totaling to thirty-eight and capitalizing on turnovers with fifteen points off them. Their tenacity on defense was evident as they matched their opponents with five steals and surpassed them with five blocks.


Despite these efforts, turnovers were equally distributed between both teams at thirteen each which kept things competitive throughout. However, one area where Washington State fell short was three-point shooting; they made only five out three-point attempts which translated into a thirty-three percent success rate from beyond the arc.


On Colorado's side, they had slightly better control over personal fouls committing only thirteen compared to twenty-one by Washington State which may have contributed to their ability to stay ahead despite close quarters combat throughout this conference game.
