In a closely contested battle, the Washington State Cougars edged out the Arizona Wildcats with a final score of 77-74. The Washington State Cougars showcased remarkable resilience on enemy territory at McKale Center. With an impressive field goal percentage of 42 and converting 79 percent from the free-throw line, they maintained pressure on their higher-ranked opponents. The team's offensive efforts were highlighted by scoring 34 points in paint and adding another 14 through second-chance opportunities.

Defensively, Washington State was just as tenacious. They secured a total of 38 rebounds, with an especially strong showing on defensive boards where they grabbed 26 rebounds. Their ability to limit turnovers played a crucial role in their victory; they committed only nine turnovers compared to eleven by Arizona.

The standout performance came from beyond the arc where WSU made six three-pointers at a rate of thirty-three percent. This outside shooting added an essential dimension to their game plan that kept Arizona's defense stretched throughout both halves.

On the other side, Arizona put up a valiant fight but fell just short as time expired. They managed to out-rebound WSU slightly with thirty-nine rebounds and had more assists with fifteen successful passes leading to scores. However, their lower free throw accuracy at sixty-three percent proved costly in such a tight contest.

The game was marked by its intensity and competitiveness as evidenced by ten times tied scoreline and thirteen lead changes that kept fans on edge until the very end.

Looking ahead for Washington State fans, attention now turns to another challenging matchup against Arizona State Sun Devils scheduled for February twenty-fourth at five PM Pacific Time in Tempe's Desert Financial Arena. This upcoming conference game will be broadcasted live on ESPN2 for supporters unable to make it to Arizona but eager not to miss any action from their beloved Cougars.
