Can Washington State Cougars' Defense Overcome Iowa State Cyclones' Offense?

The Cougars showcased their defensive skills with an impressive eight blocks and three steals. However, it was not enough to secure victory over the Cyclones at CHI Health Center Omaha. Despite trailing in fast break points by nine and points off turnovers by seventeen, Washington State managed to keep personal fouls to sixteen compared to Iowa State's twelve.


Washington State's offense had moments of efficiency; they shot a commendable sixty-one percent from two-point range and seventy-eight percent from the free-throw line. Yet struggles from beyond the arc were evident as they only converted twenty-two percent of their three-point attempts.

The team's effort on rebounds was noteworthy as they grabbed thirty-three in total, just one more than their opponents. Of these, twenty-three were defensive rebounds which helped limit second-chance opportunities for Iowa State who managed only five second-chance points compared to eight by Washington State.


A standout statistic for Washington State was their two-point shooting percentage which eclipsed that of Iowa States' thirty-seven percent mark. However, this did not translate into overall field goal efficiency where they lagged behind at forty-three percent while Iowa state hit forty percent of their shots from the field.

Despite these efforts, it was clear that turnovers played a significant role in this contest; Washington state committed thirteen turnovers leading to four points for Iowa state whereas Cyclones capitalized more effectively on turnovers scoring twenty-one points off them.
