West Virginia Mountaineers and UMass Minutemen Clash at MassMutual Center in Men's Basketball Showdown

In a competitive matchup at the MassMutual Center, the West Virginia Mountaineers faced off against the UMass Minutemen. The game ended with the Minutemen securing an 87-79 victory over the Mountaineers. The West Virginia team now holds a record of 0-1, while UMass stands at 1-0.

The game saw both teams putting up strong numbers, but it was ultimately the Minutemen who came out on top. The home team, West Virginia Mountaineers, scored 29 points in the first half and ramped up their offense to add another 50 points in the second half. Despite their efforts and a higher three-point shooting accuracy of 45 percent compared to UMass's 38 percent, they fell short by eight points.


The West Virginia Mountaineers showed resilience throughout the game with notable performances from their players. They made an impressive total of 14 three-point shots and had a free throw percentage of 75 percent. However, personal fouls proved costly for them as they racked up a total of 24 fouls during play.


On defense, both teams were nearly even with one block for West Virginia and two for UMass. Steals were also closely contested; however, UMass edged out with five steals to West Virginia's four.


UMass demonstrated effective ball movement which resulted in them accumulating more assists than their opponents; they recorded a total of 21 assists while maintaining an assist-turnover ratio of one point five. Their offensive efforts were bolstered by scoring thirty-four fast break points and securing thirty-six points in paint.


Rebounding was another area where UMass excelled; they pulled down forty-seven rebounds including twelve offensive boards which contributed to thirteen second-chance points.

The upcoming game is set against Radford Highlanders at WVU Coliseum on December twenty-first at seven PM Eastern Time.
