The game was characterized by its intensity and competitiveness, as evidenced by the ten lead changes and eight times the score was tied. The Wisconsin Badgers put up an impressive fight against their higher-ranked opponents. Despite trailing in the first half with only 20 points to Kansas's 33, they rallied back in the second half to add another 43 points to their tally. However, it wasn't enough to secure victory as both teams were forced into overtime where Kansas outscored Wisconsin by one point.

The Badgers showed resilience on defense with eight steals and one block throughout the game. They also demonstrated efficiency from the free-throw line shooting an impressive 74 percent compared to their opponents' more modest rate of 57 percent. Rebounding played a significant role in this tight contest; Kansas secured an impressive total rebound count of fifty compared to thirty-five for Wisconsin. This included twelve offensive rebounds for Kansas which contributed significantly to their eleven second-chance points.
