Wyoming Cowboys Outpaced by BYU Cougars in High-Scoring Affair at Marriott Center

The Wyoming Cowboys faced a challenging contest against the BYU Cougars, with the final scoreboard reading 94-68 in favor of the home team. The Cowboys now hold a record of 0-1, while the Cougars improved to 1-0.

In front of an energetic crowd at the Marriott Center, the Wyoming Cowboys put forth a valiant effort but were ultimately outmatched by the 14th-ranked BYU Cougars. The game saw Wyoming score 33 points in the first half and add another 35 in the second, totaling 68 points for their efforts. Despite their hard work, they could not keep pace with BYU's offensive onslaught which tallied up to an impressive total of 94 points.


The Cowboys' offense was led by their ability to penetrate inside, scoring a notable 34 points in paint. They also capitalized on turnovers, adding another dozen points to their tally from these opportunities. From beyond the arc, they shot a respectable rate of around one-third success rate (35 percent), making seven three-pointers throughout the game.


Defensively though, Wyoming struggled to contain BYU's sharpshooters who managed an impressive three-point shooting percentage of approximately two-fifths (44 percent), contributing significantly to their high point total with fourteen made threes. Additionally, fast break situations proved advantageous for BYU as they scored seventeen fast break points compared to Wyoming's four.


On individual performances for Wyoming: players showed tenacity on both ends of court with six steals and one block while distributing twelve assists among teammates; however turnovers were an issue as they matched their assist count with eleven giveaways. In terms of rebounding efforts, they secured thirty boards including five offensive rebounds which led to eleven second-chance points.
