Wyoming Cowboys Set to Conquer The Pit in Albuquerque Showdown

As the Wyoming Cowboys prepare to face off against the New Mexico Lobos at The Pit in Albuquerque, fans are eager for what promises to be an electrifying encounter. Coming off a nail-biting victory against the San Jose State Spartans with a score of 75-73 on January 3rd, the Cowboys have shown resilience and an ability to close out tight games.

The previous game saw WYO overcoming a halftime deficit by putting up 40 points in the second half, showcasing their determination and clutch performance under pressure. With an impressive free throw percentage of 92 percent and a solid field goal percentage of 42 percent, they've demonstrated efficiency where it counts. Moreover, their defensive prowess was on display as they limited turnovers to just five while forcing eleven from their opponents.

However, looking back at December's matchups paints a more complex picture for WYO. Their encounter with BYU Cougars on December 30th resulted in a tough loss with a significant point gap (68-94). Despite this setback, there were still positives to draw upon; notably their ability to create opportunities through assists and maintaining decent shooting percentages from both inside and beyond the arc.

The most concerning performance came earlier that month during the Championship Game against UTEP Miners on December 22nd. The Cowboys struggled with turnovers (16) and fouls (24), which translated into easy points for UTEP from free throws (74 percent made) and fast breaks (20 points). This game highlighted areas that needed tightening up if WYO hopes to consistently compete at high levels.

Looking ahead at UNM's home court advantage at The Pit could pose challenges for WYO; however, based on recent performances, it is clear that when they control turnovers and maintain high shooting accuracy—especially from the charity stripe—they can dominate play. It will be crucial for them not only to replicate these aspects but also improve ball security compared to earlier games this season.

Fans should expect Wyoming Cowboys' head coach Jeff Linder's strategy will likely emphasize disciplined defense while exploiting any weaknesses in New Mexico Lobos' armor—particularly by capitalizing on scoring opportunities created through solid assists-to-turnover ratios seen in past games.

The upcoming battle is scheduled for January 6th at 8:00 PM MST at The Pit in Albuquerque. CBS Sports Network will broadcast this anticipated matchup nationally on channel 221 for those who cannot make it but wish not miss out as these two teams clash in what promises an engaging contest filled with strategic plays and athletic prowess.
