Cowboys Face Tough Battle at Thomas & Mack Center Against UNLV Runnin' Rebels in Men's Basketball

In a conference game that saw the Wyoming Cowboys fall to the UNLV Runnin' Rebels, the final tally stood at 72-86. The Cowboys now hold a record of 0-1, while the Runnin' Rebels advance with a record of 1-0.

Wyoming Cowboys VS UNLV Runnin' Rebels

The Wyoming Cowboys entered the Thomas & Mack Center with determination but faced an uphill battle against a formidable UNLV squad. Throughout the game, both teams displayed impressive offensive efforts. The Cowboys managed to sink 14 three-pointers at an impressive rate of 42 percent from beyond the arc. Their overall field goal percentage was recorded at 41 percent with successful attempts totaling 24 out of their 59 shots.

Despite their efforts from long range, Wyoming struggled inside, scoring only 20 points in the paint compared to UNLV's more dominant performance of 30 points in that area. Additionally, while both teams were almost even on assists with each recording 14 assists, it was evident that UNLV capitalized more effectively on turnovers by scoring eleven points off turnovers as opposed to eight by Wyoming.

Wyoming’s free throw accuracy was notable as they made ten out of fourteen attempts which translates to a solid rate of approximately seventy-one percent. However, this paled in comparison to UNLV's exceptional eighty-five percent free throw shooting where they made seventeen out of twenty attempts.

On defense, Wyoming managed three steals but failed to register any blocks throughout the contest and gathered thirty rebounds; twenty-two defensive and seven offensive rebounds contributed to their effort on this front. Unfortunately for them, this was slightly overshadowed by UNLV's six blocks and thirty-three total rebounds which included an overwhelming twenty-nine defensive boards.

Looking ahead for fans of the Wyoming Cowboys: The team will next face off against Fresno State Bulldogs at Arena-Auditorium in Laramie on February first at eight PM Mountain Time (10 PM Eastern). This upcoming game will be broadcast nationally on Fox Sports one channel two hundred nineteen for those looking forward to catching all live-action from home or elsewhere.
