Can the Wyoming Cowboys Bounce Back After San Diego Setback?

The Wyoming Cowboys faced a challenging contest against the San Diego State Aztecs, concluding with a 65-81 defeat. The Cowboys now hold a record of 0-1, while the Aztecs have started their season with a victory. The game unfolded at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl in front of an energetic crowd of 12,414 attendees.

The Wyoming Cowboys entered the game with determination but struggled to match the offensive efficiency of their opponents. Despite shooting an impressive 91 percent from the free-throw line and making 10 out of 11 attempts, they fell short in field goal percentage, managing only 40 percent compared to the Aztecs' more effective rate of 49 percent. The Cowboys' efforts from beyond the arc were notable as they sank nine three-pointers at a respectable rate of 36 percent.

On defense, however, Wyoming managed just one block and one steal throughout the game – starkly contrasting with San Diego State's six blocks and ten steals. This defensive disparity was further highlighted by points off turnovers; while Wyoming failed to capitalize on turnovers by scoring additional points, San Diego State excelled in this area with 19 points gained from such opportunities.

Wyoming's rebounding efforts were strong as they outrebounded their opponents by ten boards overall (39 to San Diego State's 29), including securing eight offensive rebounds which contributed to nine second-chance points. However, these efforts were not enough to overcome other areas where they lagged behind.

Individually for Wyoming, there was no shortage of effort on court as evidenced by their total rebound count and free throw accuracy. Yet team play indicators like assists showed room for improvement; only eight assists were recorded compared to thirteen by San Diego State.

Looking ahead after this tough loss on road soil against conference rivals will be crucial for morale within the team ranks. Fans will undoubtedly rally behind them as they prepare for their next challenge back home.

The upcoming game for the Wyoming Cowboys is set against Colorado State Rams at Arena-Auditorium in Laramie on January 27th at noon local time (2:00 PM Eastern Time).
