Cowboys Corralled by Aggies in High-Scoring Showdown at Arena-Auditorium

The Wyoming Cowboys faced a challenging contest against the Utah State Aggies, culminating in an 84-76 defeat. The Cowboys' season record now stands at an even balance, while the Aggies improved their standing with this victory. The game unfolded at the Arena-Auditorium in Laramie, Wyoming, where 3,401 fans witnessed a dynamic battle between two determined teams.

The first half saw the Cowboys take a slight edge with 43 points over the Aggies' 39. However, as play resumed after halftime, momentum shifted. The Aggies racked up an impressive additional 45 points to surpass the home team's effort of adding only 33 more to their tally.


Wyoming's offense was spearheaded by their ability to convert from inside the paint where they scored 32 points and from second-chance opportunities that added another 12 to their scoreline. Despite shooting at a lower percentage than their opponents from both two-point (45 percent) and three-point range (36 percent), they managed to make nine three-pointers throughout the game.


On defense, however, Wyoming struggled without recording any blocks compared to eight by Utah State and also committed more personal fouls with a total of 19. This aggressive play led to two players being fouled out of the game. Nevertheless, they did manage seven steals and showed better ball distribution with a total of 13 assists.


Utah State's performance was marked by high efficiency in shooting; they achieved a field goal percentage of 57 and were particularly effective from beyond the arc hitting nine out of twenty-one attempts for a three-point percentage of around 43 percent. Their free throw accuracy stood at approximately 71 percent as they made fifteen free throws out of twenty-one attempts.


The Aggies also demonstrated strength under both baskets securing thirty-two rebounds on defense and contributing four on offense which helped them maintain control throughout much of the game despite nine times when scores were tied and seven lead changes.
