Crimson Tide Encounters Rough Waters Against Top-Ranked Gamecocks

The Alabama Crimson Tide faced a challenging contest against the South Carolina Gamecocks, with the final scoreboard reading 44-72. The Crimson Tide's season record now stands at 0-1, while the Gamecocks boast a 1-0 start.

Alabama Crimson Tide VS South Carolina Gamecocks

In Columbia's Colonial Life Arena, the Alabama Crimson Tide struggled to find their rhythm early on, trailing with only six points in the first quarter and five in the second. Despite a valiant effort in the second half where they scored 17 and then 16 points in subsequent quarters, it was not enough to close the gap created by South Carolina's consistent performance throughout the game.

The Crimson Tide's offensive efforts were led by their free throw accuracy, sinking 11 out of 14 attempts for an impressive 79 percent conversion rate. However, their field goal percentage told a different story; they made just 15 out of 68 shots for a lowly success rate of only about one-fifth. From beyond the arc, they managed to convert three out of nineteen attempts which amounted to roughly one-sixth accuracy.

Defensively, Alabama showed tenacity with eleven steals and four blocks but also gave up eighteen personal fouls that contributed to two players being fouled out. They fought hard on rebounds with forty-five total grabs—seventeen offensive and twenty-eight defensive—but still fell short against South Carolina’s fifty-one rebounds.

The home team capitalized on turnovers scoring twelve points off them compared to nine by Alabama. The Gamecocks also dominated inside scoring thirty-four points in paint versus twenty-two by their opponents. Their balanced attack was evident as they made twenty-five field goals at a thirty-eight percent clip and were successful from three-point range hitting five out of thirteen attempts.

Looking ahead for fans of the Crimson Tide is another chance to rally behind their team when they face off against Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs at Foster Auditorium in Tuscaloosa on February 25th at 4:00 PM local time (Central). This upcoming game will be available for viewing so supporters can watch as Alabama seeks redemption on their home court.
