Can the Wildcats Tame the Cougars at McKale Center?

As the Arizona Wildcats prepare to host the Washington State Cougars at McKale Center, fans are eager to see if their team can bounce back from a recent string of performances that have left much to be desired. The upcoming clash on February 17th is not just another game; it's an opportunity for redemption.

Arizona Wildcats VS Washington State Cougars

The Wildcats' last outing against Gonzaga Bulldogs on December 20th was a tough one. Despite putting up a valiant fight, they fell short with a final score of 69-81. The statistics tell a story of missed opportunities and what-ifs – only making 21 percent from beyond the arc and being outrebounded by their opponents who grabbed 32 rebounds compared to ARIZ's mere 21.

However, there were glimmers of hope in that loss. The Wildcats demonstrated tenacity with an impressive number of steals (12) and points off turnovers (20), indicating their ability to disrupt opponents' play. This defensive prowess will be crucial when facing WSU.

In contrast, when looking at ARIZ's performance against Arizona State Sun Devils on December 18th, where they dominated with a scoreline of 91-52, it’s clear this team has potential for greatness. Their field goal percentage stood at an impressive 57 percent and they managed to sink an astonishing 65 percent from three-point range that night.

The key takeaway from these past games is inconsistency but also untapped potential. If ARIZ can harness their evident offensive capabilities while maintaining defensive pressure as seen in previous games, they could very well overpower WSU.

The Cougars should not be underestimated though; any opponent in this league demands respect and preparation. But given ARIZ’s home-court advantage and if past lessons have been learned and strategies adjusted accordingly, there is reason for optimism among Wildcat fans.

Looking ahead to February 17th's game scheduled for tip-off at McKale Center in Tucson at 6:00 PM local time (8:00 PM ET), supporters should mark their calendars for what promises to be an exciting matchup as part of women’s college basketball action this season. Fans unable to attend can catch live coverage ensuring no one misses out on what could potentially be a turning point in the Wildcats’ season.
