Can the Buffaloes Maintain Their Momentum After Dominating the Golden Bears?

In a display of sheer dominance at the CU Events Center, the Colorado Buffaloes outplayed the California Golden Bears with a final score of 76-61. The Buffaloes, ranked 5th nationally, improved their record to an impressive tally while handing their opponents another setback in their season's campaign.

From tip-off, it was evident that the home team was on a mission. The Buffaloes set an aggressive tone early in the game, ending the first quarter with a lead and building upon it as each quarter progressed. Their offensive execution was clinical; they shot an impressive 53 percent from the field and were particularly effective from beyond the arc where they hit half of their attempts.

The Buffaloes' superiority wasn't limited to shooting alone. They orchestrated a well-rounded team performance that saw them dish out 20 assists, showcasing their ability to share and move the ball effectively against a struggling Golden Bears defense. This teamwork extended to rebounding as well; Colorado hauled in 36 rebounds—seven more than California—with both teams grabbing five team rebounds each.

Defensively, Colorado matched California's intensity block-for-block and steal-for-steal with both teams recording three blocks and nine steals respectively. However, it was in fast break situations where Colorado truly shined by doubling California's points at 18-9—a testament to their quick transitions and sharp execution on counterattacks.

The paint was another area where Colorado exerted its authority by scoring 32 points compared to California’s 22. This inside presence complemented their perimeter shooting and created a balanced attack that kept California guessing throughout the contest.

Despite committing an equal number of turnovers (15 for each), Colorado managed those mistakes better by maintaining an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.33 compared to California’s lower ratio of just over half that amount. Discipline also played its part as both teams committed twelve personal fouls without any player being fouled out or ejected from what turned out to be a cleanly fought contest.

As fans look ahead after this commanding performance by Colorado, attention turns towards future challenges on court. The next game for the Buffaloes is set against Stanford Cardinal at CU Events Center on January 14th at noon local time (Mountain Time).
