Colorado Buffaloes Stumble at Pauley Pavilion Against the UCLA Bruins
The Colorado Buffaloes, ranked 13th, faced off against the 8th-ranked UCLA Bruins in a conference game that ended with a score of 53-45. The Buffaloes now stand with their record reflecting more losses than victories, while the Bruins improved their standing with another win added to their tally.
At Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, home of the Bruins, the Colorado Buffaloes struggled to find their rhythm against a formidable opponent. Despite an aggressive defense that resulted in 15 steals and five blocks, the Buffaloes could not capitalize on these opportunities as much as they would have hoped. Their effort was evident in points off turnovers where they scored 21 points but it wasn't enough to secure a victory.
Offensively, Colorado had difficulty finding the basket throughout the game. They shot at a mere 29 percent from both field goal range and three-point line while sinking only 28 percent of two-point attempts. Even though they were more accurate from the free-throw line with an impressive 80 percent completion rate, it did not compensate for their overall shooting woes.
One area where Colorado showed strength was in fast break situations where they outscored UCLA by scoring 11 fast break points. However, this was overshadowed by their struggle inside; managing only 18 points in paint compared to UCLA's dominant performance which yielded them 24 paint points.
Rebounding also proved challenging for Colorado as they gathered a total of just six team rebounds and were outrebounded by UCLA who secured a total of five team rebounds but had higher individual rebounding numbers leading to an overall advantage on boards.
The fourth quarter saw some hope for Colorado when they managed to put up ten points but it wasn't enough against UCLA's consistent scoring across all quarters including thirteen points in this final period alone.
Looking ahead after this tough loss on away ground, fans can look forward to seeing if Colorado can bounce back when they host Washington Huskies at CU Events Center located in Boulder on February 29th at 6:00 PM Mountain Time. The game will be broadcasted live on Pac-12 Network for those who wish to follow along and support their team from afar or join them at home where hopefully home-court advantage will play its part.
