From the outset, the Blue Devils established control with a first-quarter lead of 17-12 and never looked back. They extended their advantage in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents by eight points to head into halftime with a comfortable lead. The third quarter saw both teams score more modestly, but it was still enough for Duke to maintain their dominance over Virginia.

Furthermore, Duke excelled from two-point range with an impressive accuracy of 61 percent and were nearly flawless from the free-throw line at 88 percent.

Duke's offensive efforts were complemented by robust defensive play; they amassed six steals and matched Virginia's two blocks while committing an equal number of personal fouls at seventeen each.
