Can East Carolina University Dominate Memphis Tigers with a Strong Paint Presence?

The East Carolina Pirates edged out the Memphis Tigers in a closely contested battle, finishing with a 65-63 scoreline. The Pirates' season record now stands at an impressive 20-10, while the Tigers fall to 18-12.


East Carolina Pirates VS Memphis Tigers

The game was marked by intense competition and notable performances from both sides. The Pirates started off the first quarter with a solid 14 points but fell slightly behind in the second quarter, scoring only 12 points to the Tigers' commanding 23. However, they came back strong after halftime, putting up an impressive 26 points in the third quarter and sealing their victory with another 13 in the final period.


East Carolina's defense was particularly formidable; they racked up an astounding total of 14 blocks throughout the game compared to just four from Memphis. Additionally, their offense capitalized on turnovers scoring 12 points off them and maintained control of rebounds with a total of 44 compared to Memphis's total rebound count of 41.


The Pirates showed remarkable accuracy from the free-throw line as well, making an excellent rate of free throws at an accuracy rate of about eighty-six percent. Their two-point attempts were also noteworthy; although they shot forty-two percent from inside the arc, it was enough to keep them ahead as they made twenty-three baskets on fifty-five attempts.


Despite not making any three-pointers – shooting zero for seven – East Carolina managed to secure thirty-eight points within paint territory which played a significant role in their victory over Memphis. Their ball movement resulted in sixteen assists which is slightly higher than that of their opponents who had fourteen assists.


Memphis did put up quite a fight though; they stole possession thirteen times and scored twenty fast-break points indicating their aggressive play style. They also had six successful three-point shots contributing significantly towards keeping them within striking distance until the very end.
