Can the Owls Soar Past the Mustangs at Moody Coliseum?
As the Florida Atlantic Owls prepare to face off against the SMU Mustangs at Moody Coliseum, fans are eager to see if their team can bounce back from recent performances. The upcoming game, scheduled for January 5th, promises to be a test of resilience and strategy for the Owls.
In their last outing on December 30th against UAB Blazers, FAU struggled to find their rhythm, scoring only 53 points compared to UAB's 65. Despite matching UAB in total rebounds with 40 each, FAU's shooting was lackluster with a field goal percentage of just 37 percent and an even more disappointing three-point percentage of 20 percent. Their free throw performance was slightly better at 54 percent but still left much room for improvement.
Earlier games show a similar trend for FAU. Against San Diego State Aztecs on December 21st, they were outscored by a significant margin (48-75), with turnovers being a major issue as they gave up possession seventeen times. However, there was a silver lining as their free throw accuracy improved to an impressive 71 percent.
On December 18th versus UCF Knights in Orlando, the Owls showed some promise despite another loss (59-58). They managed an equal split in field goals made and had an exceptional three-point shooting night at fifty percent accuracy. Yet again though turnovers plagued them with twenty-two lost opportunities.
The pattern is clear: while rebounding is one of FAU's strengths – consistently matching or outperforming opponents – ball handling and consistent shooting are areas needing attention if they hope to secure more wins.
As they head into enemy territory at Moody Coliseum – where home-court advantage can be significant – it will be crucial for Florida Atlantic Owls not only to tighten up their defense but also find efficiency and composure on offense.
Fans looking forward to this matchup can catch all the action live on January 5th at Moody Coliseum in Dallas or tune in from home as these two teams battle it out on court.
