Seminoles Narrowly Edged Out in a High-Scoring Duel with Cavaliers

The Florida State Seminoles, ranked 15th, faced off against the unranked Cavaliers in a closely contested battle at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. Despite a valiant effort, the Seminoles fell just short with a final score of 91-87. The home team's record now stands at 1-2 while the Cavaliers improved to 2-1.

Florida State Seminoles VS Virginia Cavaliers

The game was characterized by its high energy and neck-to-neck scoring as both teams fought hard on the court. The Seminoles displayed an impressive offensive performance throughout all four quarters, consistently racking up points to keep pace with their opponents. They showcased their speed and agility by capitalizing on fast break opportunities to score 14 points.

Defensively, however, it was a challenging night for the Seminoles who managed only one block compared to six from the Cavaliers. The home team did manage to outperform their rivals in steals with seven against three from Virginia's side, which contributed significantly to their 23 points off turnovers.

Florida State demonstrated commendable accuracy from the free throw line hitting 76 percent of their shots which amounted to 22 made free throws. Their two-point field goal percentage stood at an even 50 percent but they struggled beyond the arc making just five out of twenty-six three-point attempts for a lowly nineteen percent conversion rate.

On the rebounding front, Florida State gathered thirty boards including nine offensive rebounds that led them to score fourteen second-chance points matching Virginia's output in this category. However, they were outrebounded overall as Virginia secured forty-eight rebounds including twelve on offense.

The Cavaliers' shooting efficiency proved pivotal; they achieved fifty-four percent field goal shooting and forty-seven percent from three-point range which included eight successful shots from downtown contributing significantly towards their victory margin.

As both teams exchanged leads six times during play and found themselves tied another six times, it was ultimately Virginia who managed to pull ahead when it mattered most securing those crucial final baskets that sealed their win despite committing nineteen turnovers over FSU's mere three.

Looking ahead after this tough loss at home, Florida State Seminoles will be visiting Durham where they are scheduled to face Duke Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium on January 25th at 6:00 PM Eastern Time. Fans can catch all of this action live as it will be broadcast nationally on ACC Network channel number six hundred twelve.
