Iowa Hawkeyes Dominate Paint to Overcome Ohio State Buckeyes at Carver-Hawkeye Arena

The Iowa Hawkeyes, ranked 6th nationally, delivered a commanding performance against the 2nd-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes with a final score of 93-83. The Hawkeyes' season record now stands at an impressive 6-1, while the Buckeyes move to a still strong but lesser 5-2.

From the opening quarter, the Iowa Hawkeyes set the tone with an aggressive offense that outscored their opponents by nine points. They maintained this intensity throughout the game, leading in three of four quarters and showcasing their ability to control both ends of the court. The home team's scoring was particularly effective inside, where they amassed a significant 42 points in paint compared to Ohio State's 28.


The Hawkeyes' shooting accuracy was on display as they hit 58 percent from two-point range and maintained an overall field goal percentage of 50. Their prowess from beyond the arc was also notable with an impressive haul of eleven three-pointers made from twenty-eight attempts. Free throws were another area where Iowa excelled; they capitalized on these opportunities by making eighteen out of twenty-three attempts for a remarkable free throw percentage of seventy-eight.

Defensively, Iowa demonstrated their strength with eleven steals and three blocks contributing to sixteen turnovers by Ohio State. This defensive pressure allowed them to score nineteen fast break points and seventeen points off turnovers. On rebounds, Iowa dominated as well with thirty-eight total rebounds including nine offensive boards which led to twelve second-chance points.


Ohio State Buckeyes did not go down without a fight though; they managed fourteen three-pointers on thirty attempts for forty-seven percent shooting from deep and had twenty-two assists reflecting their collaborative effort on offense. However, it wasn't enough against a determined Iowa side that seemed one step ahead throughout most aspects of play.
