Lady Flames' Efforts Fall Short Against Gamecocks at Pete Mathews Coliseum

In a conference showdown, the Liberty Lady Flames faced off against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, culminating in a 63-78 defeat for the visitors. The Lady Flames now hold a record of 0-1 while the Gamecocks stand at 1-0 after their victorious effort.

The game began with the Lady Flames trailing in the first quarter with only 8 points to their name compared to the Gamecocks' robust start of 22 points. However, Liberty bounced back in the second quarter by adding another 17 points to their score, attempting to close in on Jacksonville State's lead. Despite this effort and an even stronger third-quarter performance where they scored an impressive 21 points, it was not enough to overcome their opponents.


The Lady Flames showcased determination throughout the match. They dominated inside with a total of 40 points in paint and capitalized on second-chance opportunities by scoring an additional 15 points from such plays. Their defensive efforts resulted in seven steals and three blocks while also securing a substantial number of rebounds totaling at forty-five – twenty-six being defensive and fourteen offensive.


Offensively, Liberty's field goal attempts were numerous but yielded only a thirty-six percent success rate overall; however, they were more efficient from two-point range with forty-six percent accuracy. Free throw opportunities were scarce as they made just eight out of sixteen attempts which translated into fifty percent completion rate. From beyond the arc, they struggled significantly managing only one successful three-pointer from eighteen attempts resulting in six percent efficiency.


On individual performances for Liberty, ball distribution was evident as thirteen assists were recorded during playtime despite committing seven turnovers themselves; this resulted in an assist-turnover ratio of approximately two point seventeen.


Conversely, Jacksonville State had fewer total rebounds at forty-two but managed better field goal accuracy at forty-two percent including twelve successful three-pointers contributing to their higher final score. They also excelled during fast breaks scoring seventeen fast break points compared to Liberty's three.
