The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters, with a record of 0-0, faced off against the New Mexico State Aggies, also at 0-0. In a game that pushed both teams to their limits, the Lady Techsters emerged victorious with a final score of 70-63.
The match started evenly with both teams locked at 17 points after the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Lady Techsters struggle to find their rhythm, scoring only 4 points compared to the Aggies' 9. The fourth quarter was tightly contested but ended with Louisiana Tech trailing by four points.
In overtime, however, it was clear that the Lady Techsters had found their stride. They outscored New Mexico State by seven points in this crucial period thanks largely to their remarkable free throw accuracy which stood at an impressive seventy-nine percent for the game. This sharpshooting from the line proved pivotal as they secured fifteen of those overtime points via free throws.
The home team's defensive efforts were notable as well; they tallied eight steals over New Mexico State's five and capitalized on turnovers by scoring twenty points off them. Their assist-to-turnover ratio was also superior at 1.1 compared to New Mexico State's less efficient ratio of .58.
Offensively for Louisiana Tech, three-point shooting made a significant impact as they converted thirty-five percent of attempts from beyond the arc into six successful shots which contributed greatly towards keeping them in contention throughout regular play and into overtime.
On top of that, fast break opportunities were seized effectively by Louisiana Tech who scored eleven fast break points versus two from New Mexico State – showcasing quick transitions and agility on court.
Despite being outrebounded twenty-seven to twenty-five overall and conceding more personal fouls (twenty-four), it was ultimately Louisiana’s ability to maintain composure under pressure that led them through this challenging encounter against a determined opponent in front of an attendance crowd numbering one thousand seven hundred seventy-five fans at Thomas Assembly Center.
