Will Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders' Efforts Eclipse LSU's Home Advantage?

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders faced a challenging contest against the LSU Tigers, culminating in a 56-83 loss. The Blue Raiders entered the game with no rank to their name, while the Tigers boasted an impressive eighth rank. Despite a valiant effort, Middle Tennessee was unable to overcome the home team at Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

From the outset, it was clear that both teams were eager to establish dominance. The first quarter saw the Blue Raiders put up 15 points against the Tigers' 20. As they moved into the second quarter, Middle Tennessee ramped up their offense to add another 21 points but still found themselves trailing as halftime approached.


Throughout the game, Middle Tennessee struggled with personal fouls, committing a total of 31 compared to LSU's 16. This discrepancy allowed LSU numerous opportunities at the free-throw line where they capitalized with a solid free throw percentage of around 70 percent. In contrast, Middle Tennessee managed only nine attempts from which they made six.


The rebounding battle was fiercely contested; however, it was ultimately won by LSU who gathered a total of 43 rebounds over Middle Tennessee's commendable count of 41. Of those for Middle Tennessee, an impressive defensive effort led to securing 30 defensive rebounds and adding another ten on offense.


Offensively for Middle Tennessee, field goals were hard-fought with an overall shooting percentage hovering around just over one-third at approximately 34 percent from field goal range and roughly one-quarter from beyond three-point territory at about 26 percent accuracy.


Despite these challenges on offense and defense alike for MTU – including turnovers which totaled sixteen – there were notable performances including six blocks demonstrating significant defensive efforts throughout this tough matchup.


As time wound down in Baton Rouge that evening before an audience of over twelve thousand fans who filled nearly every seat within Pete Maravich Assembly Center’s capacity crowd; it became evident that despite their best efforts on court – including eight points scored off fast breaks and eighteen within paint – victory would elude them this round against such formidable opponents as eighth-ranked home team: The Tigers.
