Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs Edged Out in Overtime by Ole Miss Rebels at The Pavilion

In a closely contested match, the Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs now stand at 0-1 after being narrowly defeated by the Ole Miss Rebels with a final score of 71-75. The game saw both teams pushing their limits, but it was the Rebels who ultimately secured the win.

The Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs started strong, leading the first quarter with 18 points against the Rebels' 22. However, they fell slightly behind in the second quarter scoring only 14 points to their opponent's 16. After halftime, they bounced back with an impressive performance in the third quarter adding another 20 points to their tally while holding Ole Miss to just 11 points. The fourth quarter saw a dip in momentum for Mississippi State as they managed only 11 points compared to Ole Miss's 14, which pushed the game into overtime.


During overtime, despite a valiant effort and scoring an additional eight points, it wasn't enough against Ole Miss's twelve. Throughout this intense matchup, Mississippi State showcased solid teamwork with a total of eighteen assists and demonstrated defensive skills by securing eight steals and three blocks. They also dominated under their basket pulling down forty-three rebounds including ten offensive boards which led to ten second-chance points.


Offensively, Mississippi State made twenty-nine out of seventy-one field goal attempts resulting in a forty-one percent shooting rate from the field and were thirty-three percent from beyond the arc hitting five out of fifteen attempts. Inside paint proved fruitful for them as they scored thirty points but struggled slightly on free throws making eight out of twelve attempts achieving sixty-seven percent accuracy.


Despite these efforts turnovers were an issue for Mississippi State; nineteen turnovers throughout gave away crucial possession and allowed Ole Miss to capitalize with eleven points off those turnovers. In contrast to their opponents' higher assist-to-turnover ratio of one point thirteen compared to one point zero for Mississippi State.
