New Mexico Lobos Set to Battle Southern Utah Thunderbirds at The Pit in Women's Basketball Showdown

As the New Mexico Lobos prepare to host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds at The Pit, fans are buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be an electrifying game of women's basketball. With recent performances indicating a strong upward trajectory, the Lobos are poised to deliver another thrilling performance.

Gonzaga Bulldogs VS New Mexico Lobos

In their last outing on December 5th against Mississippi Valley State Devilettes, the Lobos dominated with a convincing 68-45 victory. Their offense was firing on all cylinders, as they shot an impressive 54 percent from two-point range and outrebounded their opponents by a significant margin of 56-39. This rebounding prowess was not just limited to defense; it translated into a whopping 20 second-chance points. Moreover, their assist-to-turnover ratio stood at a commendable 1.58, showcasing their ability to share the ball effectively.

The defensive end saw the Lobos rack up seven blocks and seven steals, disrupting Mississippi Valley State's rhythm and contributing directly to 13 points off turnovers. This level of defensive intensity will be crucial when facing Southern Utah Thunderbirds.

The Thunderbirds should not be underestimated though; they bring their own set of challenges that UNM must navigate carefully. However, given UNM's recent form – including victories over New Mexico State Aggies (67-52) on December 2nd and Eastern Illinois Panthers (81-78) in an overtime thriller on November 29th – there is every reason for optimism among Lobo fans.

Against Eastern Illinois Panthers, despite being pushed into overtime, UNM showed resilience by securing rebounds and executing under pressure which resulted in them edging out with an additional four points scored in overtime play compared to Panthers' twelve.

What stands out about this Lobo team is its ability to adapt and overcome adversity within games while maintaining composure – traits that will serve them well against SUU.

Looking ahead at this matchup with SUU scheduled for December 8th at The Pit in Albuquerque; if history has taught us anything it’s that home court advantage can never be overlooked especially when coupled with momentum from previous wins which UNM certainly has going into this game.

Fans eager not just for victory but also for witnessing competitive women’s basketball should mark their calendars as tip-off is set for Thursday night at The Pit. For those unable to attend in person rest assured you won’t miss any action as you can follow along through local broadcasts or streaming services where available.
