Lobos Narrowly Outpaced by Lady Rebels in Fierce Encounter
The New Mexico Lobos, with a record of 0-0, faced off against the Lady Rebels at The Pit in Albuquerque. Despite a hard-fought battle, the Lobos fell short with a final score of 56-62. The Lady Rebels improved their record to 0-0 as well.
In an intense conference game marked by four ties and three lead changes, the New Mexico Lobos showcased resilience but could not secure victory over the visiting Lady Rebels. The home team's efforts were evident in their superior two-point shooting accuracy, hitting 50 percent from inside the arc compared to UNLV's 40 percent. However, this was not enough to overcome the deficit created by UNLV's stronger performance beyond the three-point line and at the free throw line.
The Lobos' defense was active throughout the game, recording nine steals and two blocks. Their defensive prowess contributed to eight points off turnovers. On offense, they dominated inside with 38 points in paint but struggled from long range and at the charity stripe – converting only four out of nineteen three-point attempts (21 percent) and making just four free throws out of twelve attempts (33 percent).
UNLV capitalized on their opportunities from downtown and at the free throw line where they made seven out of eighteen (39 percent) for threes and nine out of sixteen (56 percent) for free throws. They also took advantage of second-chance points with eleven compared to New Mexico's four.
Despite trailing early on after scoring just six points in opening quarter compared to UNLV's eleven, New Mexico fought back valiantly across subsequent quarters scoring fourteen, nineteen and seventeen respectively but it wasn't enough as UNLV kept pace scoring fourteen, fifteen and twenty-two across remaining quarters.
The attendance at The Pit numbered 6,018 spectators who witnessed a competitive match that ultimately saw UNM fall short despite their best efforts on both ends of court.
Looking ahead for New Mexico fans eager to support their team: The next game will be an away challenge against San Diego State Aztecs scheduled for February 7th at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl located in San Diego CA zip code:92182 USA; fans can catch live action starting from 11:00 AM Mountain Time Zone broadcasted regionally.
