The game was marked by several lead changes and both teams were tied twice, indicating a match that kept fans on edge throughout its duration. The Tar Heels showcased resilience and skill, particularly during the third quarter where they amassed 24 points – doubling their score from each of the first two quarters.

North Carolina's performance was bolstered by an outstanding field goal percentage of 42 percent and an impeccable free throw completion rate where they capitalized on all five attempts. Their defense was notable with seven steals and four blocks contributing to their robust defensive effort. Offensively, they managed to put up 26 points in the paint which matched that of the Wolfpack.

Despite these efforts, turnovers proved costly for North Carolina as they gave up possession eleven times which led to ten points for NC State off those turnovers. However, it is worth noting that both teams were neck-and-neck in this aspect as NC State turned over nine times themselves.
