The match began with the Tar Heels putting up 13 points in the first quarter and replicating this effort in the second. However, they found their rhythm in the third quarter by adding another 20 points to their score. Despite this surge, they could only muster seven points in both the fourth quarter and overtime. The team's overall field goal percentage was recorded at thirty-one percent from both two-point and three-point range. Impressively, their free throw accuracy was high at eighty-six percent.

Defensively, North Carolina made six blocks and secured four steals but committed twenty-one personal fouls leading to two foulouts. On offense, they gathered forty-four total rebounds with ten on offense and thirty-four on defense which included ten team rebounds; however, turnovers were an issue as they gave up fourteen possessions.

A notable aspect of their game was second-chance points where they scored eighteen due to their offensive rebounding efforts. Points off turnovers were seven for them which shows some efficiency in capitalizing on Duke's mistakes.

On Duke’s side of play, there was an evident defensive edge as they tallied nine blocks compared to UNC’s six and outperformed them slightly with five steals over four from UNC. Their field goal percentage stood higher than that of UNC at forty-one percent overall while shooting forty-five percent from inside the arc and thirty-two percent beyond it.

Duke also had fewer turnovers than UNC with just nine lost possessions which contributed to more stable ball control throughout the game; this is reflected by their superior assists turnover ratio of 1.44 against UNC’s 0.7.

The Blue Devils excelled particularly in scoring within paint totaling thirty points compared to fourteen by North Carolina – showcasing strong interior play by Duke players.

As fans look forward to future games for redemption after this hard-fought battle that went into overtime before being decided; attention turns towards what lies ahead for North Carolina Tar Heels who will be hosting Pittsburgh Panthers next week.
